1ST ANNUAL COMMUNITY OF KINDNESS AWARDS

Chrestotes, the Greek term for “kindness”, is a special word. It is kindness that is serviceable; kindness that meets real needs, avoids harshness, and emphasizes the spirit in which an act is done.

We are inspired by people and stories that illuminate the places where compassion meets action, in the spirit of this “chrestotes” kindness. The Community of Kindness Awards honors volunteers and organizations who selflessly seek to meet the needs of those struggling in and around Austin, Texas. This awards program seeks to recognize any individual or organization, affiliated with Austin Blessings Co-op, who are committing their time, talent, or treasure to embrace their vulnerable neighbors, unify their communities, and transform lives while doing so in the spirit of “chrestotes” kindness.

Award Categories

There are two categories of awards, one for individuals and one for organizations (i.e. non-profits, churches, corporations, etc.). Multiple individuals and multiple organizations are eligible to receive awards.

Guidelines & eligibility

  • The nominee (individual or organization) has served with Austin Blessings Co-op, or one of our affiliated organizations.

  • Nominees must be 13 years of age or older.

  • The nominee must have demonstrated a significant and sustainable commitment to volunteer work over the last 12 months, doing so in the spirit of chrestotes kindness.

  • The nominee’s volunteer work must have made a positive impact on the community, organization, or initiative they served. Impact could be measured by the number of people served, results achieved or transformational changes brought about to people or communities.

  • The nomination must include stories or testimonials about the nominee’s volunteer service to highlight their kindness relating to embracing vulnerable people, unifying communities and helping to transform lives.

  • Nominators may submit multiple nominations.

  • Self nominations are welcome. Persons submitting self nominations will be required to submit at least one letter of reference or community letter of support.

Selection Process

  • Nominations for the Community of Kindness Awards will be accepted from January 22, 2024 through March 15, 2024.

  • All nominations will be submitted using a standard form, available online or in hard copy format. If submitting a hard copy nomination form, please mail it to:

  • A selection committee will review all nominations against a set of standard criteria, and finalists will be selected.

  • All nominees will receive Certificates of Appreciation.

  • All finalists will be contacted by April 8, 2024 and will be recognized at the Community of Kindness Awards Celebration on May 3, 2024.
